List of animations

Here is a list of all available animations. Their significance is explained in our article Watford to Welwyn and Hertford via St Albans Abbey (including animations)

Existing services on the Midland Main line to St Pancras including those stopping at St Albans (City) known as Thameslink services are not directly affected by these scenarios. These are not shown. There are four railway tracks on the Midland Main line. Only two are shown, being those relevant to our animations.

At Watford Junction, only those railway tracks relevant to our animations are shown.

The animations aim to illustrate railway infrastructure and are therefore not to scale.

Timetables do not as yet show platform allocations at St Albans Abbey station.

User Guide

To view the animations:
Each animation will take time to download. It is better to complete a download prior to starting a further download i.e. prior to accessing another animation. Each animation consists of a series of frames. During downloading, the animation may run at a speed determined by the download speed, although this should only be visible on slower connections. Once a download is complete, the animation should run at the designed frame rate.

Using the scroll bar on the right hand side, adjust the position so that all of the animation is visible on screen. If using Internet Explorer, the Stop button should stop the animation at the currently-displayed frame, the Refresh button should restart the animation at 00 minutes past the hour. If using Mozilla Firefox, the Stop button does not seem to take effect, the Reload button may (or may not) restart the animation. The effects of these or equivalent buttons may depend on circumstances.

Our animations can be saved as a file on your computer by right-clicking and selecting Save Image or Picture As. There is a program by the name of gifsplitter that can break a GIF animation down into individual frames. If you wish to use this program, we will not provide assistance. Select white as the background colour. We found the program at
http://download.cnet.com/GifSplitter/3000-2186_4-10387995.html as referenced at
http://bloggerspath.com/top-free-animation-software-download/ (item 13). These references may no longer be up to date. Please do not modify individual frames. This or any other program should be used solely as a read-only facility i.e. in order to be able to examine the individual frames of the animation. We are not responsible for the content of external websites. No responsibility can be accepted for the use of software provided by third parties.

To access our animations, all you need to do is to click on the desired link from the list below. On a standard computer, there should be no need to install any specialist or specific software.

We recommend viewing an animation prior to commencing the download of a further animation. These animations have many similarities. If you are not interested in all the details, you may wish to consider accessing solely the first and/or the last.
